Hello everybody. We're going to take a
0:01
look at the AttiZero Evo SL ATR, the
0:05
all-terrain version of the very popular
0:08
Evo SL, and we're going to closely
0:10
compare them. I've taken them out for
0:12
runs on the snow, on pavement, uh, and
0:16
we're going to look closely at how it
0:17
differs from the regular Evo SL, which
0:20
has been a super popular shoe in 2025.
0:24
So, please stay tuned.
0:25
Hello everybody. Sam from Road Trail
0:27
Run. Happy holidays. Merry Christmas to
0:29
everyone. Today we're going to take a
0:30
look at the variant of the Evo SL, the
0:35
uh Evo SL ATR,
0:39
uh which should be coming out shortly.
0:41
Somehow it's a bit delayed. We're going
0:42
to be comparing it to the regular Evo
0:45
SL, which has been a super popular shoe
0:49
in uh 2025.
0:52
Uh but not my favorite for a number of
0:54
reasons, which I think the ATR improves
0:56
on. Uh, so in terms of comparative
1:01
weight, the regular Evo SL is 7.76 O 220
1:06
gram in a US 8.5. The ATR is heavier.
1:11
Yes, indeed at um 9 about 9.1 O 256
1:16
grams. Uh so about 36 grams heavier. And
1:20
of course that has to do with its much
1:23
much more
1:24
extensive outsole coverage as well as a
1:29
considerably reinforced and I think much
1:32
more effective upper. So what Adidas has
1:36
done here is given it a waterresistant
1:40
upper. I took them out on the snow
1:41
yesterday, light snow on the ground on a
1:44
golf course. Nothing wet through. So
1:46
this is a very thin dense uh mesh. We
1:50
also get which is really nice uh the
1:55
riged laces and a gusset tongue which
2:00
the Evo SL does not have. So this is a
2:03
much more supportive upper uh and it
2:06
answers many of the problems of the Evo
2:09
SL. We even have kind of rubberized
2:12
bumpers here. We have reinforcement of
2:14
the heel counter. Just a much much
2:17
better heel uh overall foothold.
2:20
Now, the Evo SL it looks like is going
2:22
to get some kind of inline uh variance
2:26
of its own with a gusset tongue and a
2:28
woven upper soon. I hope they change the
2:30
laces. The foothold was not particularly
2:33
great for me. It was okay. It's there.
2:36
It's 150. The Evo SL ATR is 160. So for
2:42
160 you're getting 1 and 12 mm
2:47
uh Continental lugs, much more coverage.
2:51
Uh I find it uh much easier and more
2:53
kind of pace range friendly than the
2:56
uptempo
2:58
uh Evo SL. Uh I do wish that uh they had
3:03
kept the weight down a bit more. U not
3:05
sure how they could have done that.
3:07
Maybe these extra reinforcements are not
3:10
quite totally necessary, although I
3:13
certainly keep the outsole. Okay, in
3:15
terms of stack height, I'm kind of
3:17
estimating the Evo SL ATR at 40 and a
3:20
half heel 33.54
3:23
foot though. So, this is right up in the
3:25
max category. Uh, as is the Evo SL, I'm
3:28
saying one and a half millimeters less
3:30
to account for the lugs. So, 38 32. So,
3:34
there's plenty of uh very fine light
3:36
strike pro cushion here. Now, you're
3:39
going to say, "Well, it's a trail shoe
3:42
or an all-terrain shoe." Well, these are
3:44
1 and a half millimeter Continental
3:46
lugs. And I'm going to I went to my
3:49
archives and I want to show you a few
3:51
things here. Here is the Tacumi Sen 7
3:56
from Adidzero Tacumi Sen 7. And these
4:00
lugs are uh two plus millimeters. So, a
4:04
lot of grip uh is called for, I think,
4:08
especially if you're going to have a a
4:10
fast shoe or a shoe that can handle some
4:13
light trails, a bit of snow, wet roads.
4:17
Another one from the archives. Kind of
4:19
fun. This is the Float Ride uh Pro. I
4:24
think that was the name of it. One of
4:25
the first pea shoes. Look at those lugs.
4:29
I think they're 3 millimeters. So, um,
4:33
uh, don't be afraid of the extra grip
4:36
here. You do feel the lugs on the road
4:39
as a bit more present than you you would
4:42
in the all smooth um, uh, outsole here
4:46
on the um, on the regular Evo SL. But
4:50
the outsole also is a key key factor in
4:53
changing the feel of the shoe. I found
4:57
unlike many that the Evo SL had that
5:01
flexible forefoot a little bit
5:04
completely rigid midfoot. And I'm going
5:07
to show you now why that is. There's a
5:09
small plate directly under the foot that
5:11
made that kind of harsh. So there's our
5:14
so-called dog bone plate. And uh it's
5:17
actually placed uh directly directly
5:20
below the lasting board. So it's very
5:23
very firm. It should be, I think, placed
5:25
lower down in the shoe or become more
5:28
like the torsion system. But at $150, I
5:32
think, and $160 here, I think Adidas had
5:35
to make a choice. Um, in construction,
5:38
we saw the upper issues with the uh, for
5:41
me anyway, with the Evo SL. And to to
5:44
bring it in at that price, they had to
5:46
make a nice simple construction, which
5:48
is what they did with that little plate.
5:51
and then a relatively soft heel. So,
5:54
kind of a unless you're always up on the
5:56
front, not a not exactly a smooth ride.
6:00
Here we have the same beautiful light
6:02
strike pro foam as in the Evo SL. Uh it
6:06
feels I would say about the same
6:09
firmness, maybe could be a teeny touch
6:11
firmer. the same little plate, dog bone
6:14
plate, but the outsole kind of gives it
6:17
more structure and makes it both, I
6:20
think, more kind of responsive as
6:22
opposed to springy bouncy and much
6:25
smoother in at a wider variety of paces.
6:29
So, so if you're thinking of a Light
6:32
Strike Pro, all Light Strike Pro, which
6:34
is just a wonderful foam trainer, um it
6:38
can it can actually kind of be a much
6:40
more versatile daily trainer. Uh I'm not
6:43
sure I'd take it in summer heat. Uh but
6:46
um I think it's just a much more
6:48
versatile shoe, although it does come at
6:50
a bit of a weight penalty. Uh, so kind
6:53
of more daily trainer focused, more
6:56
uptempo focused here. So, uh, I first
7:01
got them at the the running event, uh,
7:04
from Adidas. They were kind enough to to
7:06
give us a sample pair, but what I'm
7:09
really feeling is ran them down there in
7:12
nice warm weather and yesterday ran
7:14
course and snowy conditions, not deep
7:17
snow, but gr sort of a couple inch or so
7:19
over gravel and they were great. And
7:21
then you transition to the road and
7:23
you've got a nice fast snappy ride. It's
7:26
a relatively
7:28
firm ride as a result of the additional
7:31
rubber compared to some compared to the
7:33
Evo Evo SL despite the awkwardness of
7:36
the plate or the Rad UFO. more similar
7:40
to the Maverick uh tier Maverick and
7:42
kind of feel
7:44
uh but definitely has a snappy uptempo
7:47
kind of ride to it and a much more
7:50
stable secure one due to the upper. So,
7:52
in no way should we pigeon hole it as
7:55
kind of a trail shoe, light trail shoe
7:57
only. It's actually really as much a
8:01
road shoe as a trail shoe for sloppy
8:04
conditions, wet conditions, some light
8:06
snow, uh gravel, etc. So, it's equally
8:10
as versatile as I showed you with the
8:12
outsole. Uh 1 and a half millimeters is
8:15
not excessive. Uh its upper of course
8:18
leans bad weather with its kind of water
8:21
totally waterresistant, not waterproof
8:24
um nature and the reinforcements. But um
8:28
essentially it's a ruggedized road shoe
8:32
that can handle some light trails, some
8:34
gravel, making it a very versatile shoe
8:36
and I think much much more versatile if
8:39
not quite as exciting as the regular Evo
8:42
SL. So, thank you very much for
8:45
watching. Have a great run. I'm going to
8:47
It's Christmas Day. I'm going to head
8:50
out along the coast in these nice cold,
8:53
snowy conditions.
