Hi everybody, Sam from Road Trail Run.
0:03
Today we're going to take a look at four
0:05
what I would call super max cushioned
0:07
unplated shoes. They all have stack
0:10
heights at the heel between um 44 and 46
0:14
mm and drops of 8 mm all of them except
0:18
the Nike over here which is 10 mm. They
0:21
also all share super critical foam
0:24
midsoles which allows their weight to be
0:26
very low for such big stacks. So, I've
0:30
arranged them here in order of weight to
0:32
start. The first is the uh Maverick from
0:36
Tier, the Maverick V1 Runner. And our
0:39
Maverick is 7.6 O, 216 g in my US8.5,
0:46
2 g less than the uh A6 Mega Blast. And
0:51
guess what? Uh this is the least
0:54
expensive shoe of all four. And this is
0:56
the most expensive with the Mega Blast
0:58
at 225. Um, then we move over to the
1:02
Puma, the Puma MagX 2, which gets 13 g
1:07
lighter. Um, its midsole is Puma's uh
1:11
nitro nitrofoam nitrogen infused uh I
1:14
think EVA. Um, whereas over here
1:17
6 has PEA and the Maverick has a EVA OBC
1:22
supercritical blend. Finally, uh we have
1:25
the Nike um Vomero uh Plus, which comes
1:31
in at 9.6 oz, 272 gram. It's $180,
1:37
and the Puma is the same at $180.
1:40
So, uh the Nike, of course, has ZoomX
1:43
foam and lots of it. So, in terms of
1:46
their uppers, okay, at 150, our uh
1:50
Maverick probably has the simplest,
1:52
maybe the crudest upper, but it's still
1:54
a fine fitting upper. It's a nonstretch,
1:56
thin mesh. U some of our treadmill
2:00
runners report it's actually quite
2:02
breathable. Uh it's not the fanciest
2:05
Um then we move over to the um it's true
2:08
to size. Now, we move over to the Mega
2:10
Blast. It has sort of a race shoe type
2:14
upper. You can see here it's it's light.
2:16
Uh it's uh quite dense but very light
2:19
and pliable. Uh no rolled collars here.
2:22
We have bolsters, everything to keep the
2:24
weight down. Um I find the fit just fine
2:28
here, but a bit baggy. Um then if you
2:30
have a wide foot, I would go over to the
2:34
Puma here. It definitely has the widest
2:36
fit. It has sort of a soft, a little bit
2:39
stretchy upper, the most plush upper. Uh
2:42
yet it comes in at only um uh let me
2:45
find it here. 9.03 O 256 g. Pretty darn
2:49
light for such a plush kind of upper.
2:53
Finally, the Nike. If you want the most
2:56
stability, if you will in the bunch, and
2:59
kind of the most secure upper, the most
3:01
stability. You can see the heel counter
3:03
here. Real stable. Um it it comes in at
3:07
uh the Nike comes in at 9.6 6 O 272 gram
3:12
180 bucks. So they're all similar in um
3:16
we said in stack height there's a range
3:18
of weights here you know from our u from
3:22
our Maverick at 7.6 O remarkably light
3:26
uh the the Mega Blast uh very similar
3:30
then we go up in weight but we also go
3:32
up in upper support and um kind of
3:36
plushness. Now, also underfoot affects
3:39
the uh ride uh and of course the grip.
3:42
The Nike definitely has, I would say,
3:45
the most robust stabilizing
3:48
um outsole, which really helps along
3:51
with its most stiffest, if you will,
3:54
heel counter. This is the most stable of
3:57
the bunch, uh with the most secure
3:59
upper, probably the lowest volume upper.
4:01
Very comfortable. Um, this is a
4:03
workhorse kind of uh there's not much uh
4:06
if you will uh overplay in either the
4:10
ride or the or the upper. You're going
4:13
to be secure. You're going to be stable.
4:15
Uh then we move over to the Puma. The
4:17
Puma I think is softer in feel, a little
4:20
bit less stable underfoot. You can see
4:22
how much less rubber it has. I would
4:24
like to see it have a bit more rubber.
4:26
It's heel counter not quite as massive
4:28
as the Nike. This is a good shoe for uh
4:31
slower paced uh runs. Things get a
4:34
little kind of bouncy because it's a fun
4:36
bouncy ride as you pick up the pace, but
4:39
you'll certainly have lots of very
4:41
friendly cushion here.
4:43
The Mega Blast is kind of the speedster
4:46
in the bunch. You can see it has a
4:48
pretty minimal outsole. It's the
4:50
stiffest of the bunch in terms of flex.
4:53
Um, and it it it has kind of a a uh a
4:59
more uptempo feel and ride to it. You
5:02
can see there's not much flex, none at
5:04
all. Here's our Puma.
5:08
A little bit, but still a pretty rigid
5:14
Some It's getting some flex, but still a
5:16
rigid kind of approach. And surprisingly
5:19
same stack height basically, but also a
5:23
kind of a minimal upper, a minimal
5:25
outsole. You can see darn minimal with a
5:27
deep uh cavity. This is sort of the most
5:32
agile of the bunch. And it has the most
5:34
uh flex, the Maverick from Tier. A big
5:36
surprise. This um this one here uh with
5:40
a little bit of upper tuning I think
5:42
would be the best of the bunch. Um now,
5:46
uh what what are they best for? What
5:48
what might you kind of consider uh in
5:52
conclusion here um with our different uh
5:55
shoes? Oh, here comes more shoes. FedEx
5:58
guy is here. I'm going to take a quick
6:00
break while he delivers. Okay, my
6:02
friendly FedEx guy is gone. So, a few
6:04
conclusions. If you want super light and
6:07
kind of the most agile of the bunch with
6:09
a a definite kind of more uptempo uh
6:13
feel and some flex, you go with the
6:16
Maverick. It's also the most budget
6:19
friendly uh of the shoes by 30 bucks.
6:23
If you want a reactive uh ride with uh
6:27
again lots of cushioning, a bit more
6:29
kind of rigid rocker approach and you're
6:31
up on the front and you got the budget 2
6:34
225, you go with the A6 Mega Blast, if
6:38
you have a wide foot and want the most
6:42
plush kind of comfort and a soft ride,
6:46
maybe not the most stable, you go with
6:51
And then if you want kind of a more
6:54
all-around approach um with great
6:58
traction and more stability I think than
7:01
the others um and a really for Nike
7:04
actually a pretty decent price 180 um
7:08
you go with the Vimeo Plus. Uh while
7:11
it's heavier and that's noticed it's
7:13
kind of the most stable and kind of
7:15
reliable all around um if a bit stiff.
7:20
So, we have uh written reviews of all of
7:23
these over on roadtraun.com.
7:27
Uh, thank you very much for watching.
7:29
The sun is back out. It was snowing
7:32
earlier a little bit, some flurries. I'm
7:34
going to go for a run. Have a great run.
