Diadora emerging very strong in 2004! In the video I review their all new line up: Gara Carbon racer ($300), Frequenza ($180) fun uptempo trainer, and steady and for sure not boring more max cushion Cellula ($170). It's a really complimentary runner's do it all rotation, each excellent and polished in its own way.

Hi everyone, Sam from Road Trail Run. Today we're going to talk about Deodorant's
0:04
really exciting 24 line up of Carbon Racer, the Gaara Carbon Frequenza
0:13
up-tempo shoe and a Maxx Cushion or near Maxx Cushion, the Cellula. I haven't been
0:19
on the channel too much because in November I busted my kneecap trail
0:25
running and I had some titanium installed, here's a picture, but I am
0:30
back at it and I've been running about 30 miles a week and I even got a little
0:35
bit more kind of speedy stuff going yesterday in the rain in the Gaara
0:42
Carbon. So what has Deodorant done here with this lineup? Well essentially I think
0:48
they've come up with a really good three shoe rotation so you can you can race
0:55
in the Carbon, the Gaara Carbon. You've got sort of the fun up-tempo shoe in the
1:01
Frequenza and here you've got your Maxx Cushion Daily Trainer. What I really like
1:07
about what they've done is each shoe is very distinct in its use and its
1:13
personality. They complement each other really well. So let's first talk about
1:17
the Cellula. The Cellula has their excellent D.D. Anima foam. We saw that in
1:26
the Equipe Adamo which was a shoe made entirely in Italy. This one isn't but of
1:30
course it's designed in Italy and it's beautiful. A little bit of background
1:35
about Deodorant, they've been around a long time and their leader of running is
1:41
Galindo Borodin who won the 1988 Olympic marathon and won Boston in 1990. He knows
1:50
his shoes and he's been instrumental in helping design all the models. So our
1:57
Cellula is a shoe that weighs just under 10 ounces or 277 grams in a US 9. It's
2:08
got a quite large 33-28 stack height so it doesn't get up into those extreme
2:15
kind of levels of stack height and that's really appreciated because and
2:20
I'll try not to tip everything over we've got some welcome flexibility here
2:25
long flex. We've got a broad platform which is 90 millimeters at the heel 75
2:33
at the midfoot and 110 at the forefoot so you have not an extreme height but
2:40
plenty and a broad platform. So what you get with the Anima foam is a really
2:48
vibration absorbing foam. It's a bit dense but it has a kind of a quick
2:54
rebound. The upper is sort of a grid inner kind of liner and a more kind of
3:04
mono mesh very pliable. They've done a great job here with the toe bumpers. It's
3:09
a suede like material so you got plenty of height plenty of volume so for medium
3:16
narrow feet it fits really well. None of the Deodorant shoes have a gusset
3:23
tongue so you have a suede kind of tongue same kind of suede as our
3:28
overlays and but you can see there's enough substance here to hold you and in
3:34
particular we've got really a really stout kind of rear construction very
3:41
comfortable this gridded mesh really holds the foot well so I've really
3:47
enjoyed a lot of runs in this shoe as I come back from my knee. I like the
3:51
flexibility I like the cushion doesn't go to extreme so it's a really nice
3:56
daily trainer focused on your regular old miles and recovery. Moving over to
4:04
the Frequenza so it has a completely different foam it's a super critical
4:10
EVA it's a considerably lighter shoe and we come in at 8.15 ounces or 231
4:22
grams US 9 30 millimeter heel 22 millimeter forefoot so a little bit
4:29
lower stack and I'll try to show you but this is a very or a quite reasonably
4:36
flexible shoe so it's sort of your fun up-tempo trainer it's got a really
4:44
lively bouncy ride maybe not quite as stable as the Cellula but it's it's sort
4:51
of a shoe that I see as comparable to shoes such as the Rebel V4 from New
4:59
Bounce here we have a bit lower stack we have a bit more kind of longer flex
5:04
other shoes the Nova Blast from Asics the Nova Blast is considerably higher
5:11
stack you're a little bit more not quite as kind of connected to the ground this
5:17
is a bit of a old-school ride with a new school foam so it's really kind of a fun
5:24
fun kind of shoe it actually reminds me a lot of the Puma Liberate in a little
5:33
bit more kind of substance to it maybe even a Canvara with a bit with more
5:38
bounce maybe a touch less stability again the upper very similar to the the
5:44
Cellula we've got our suede overlays we've got that kind of gridded approach
5:48
we've got a little bit smoother kind of fitting rear collar still very
5:56
substantial hold kind of essential with such a with such a light kind of upper
6:02
again no gusset tongue here suede tongue now let's move on to the Gaara Carbon
6:13
this is the Adora's Pinnacle race shoe and it is an unusual a bit unusual
6:21
design I'll see if we can show you here it's very kind of flat in geometry
6:30
however what's really neat about it is it's very stable very kind of planted on
6:38
the ground towards the rear of the shoe you see that big outrigger and you can
6:43
see there's very little kind of carving out except for the midfoot I was a bit
6:50
worried about the outsole I've got about 12 miles on them now including on really
6:55
gritty sand and unlike some of your other supercritical foam shoes and here
7:02
we have a Peeba midsole you can see it's quite soft there's not much rubber I am
7:07
seeing zero wear here and I'm not seeing any of sort of the characteristic kind
7:14
of scuffing you see with a Vaporfly 4% I'm really quite stunned up front we've
7:20
got a really copious amount of rubber yesterday I took them out in the rain
7:25
my fastest run since I busted my knee and kind of one of the longest fastest
7:30
runs I ran 839 per mile nothing fancy even for me but they were very
7:36
accommodating at that pace so I could see this being a really nice marathon
7:41
shoe for me now the upper yeah we do have the the kind of suede tongue as we
7:50
have in the others but we have a matrix upper here similar to what we have in or
7:56
the same from the same company as what Solomon uses very thin but the Kevlar
8:02
you see the black stripes here allow for a lot of hold and a lot of room as well
8:09
this is a very roomy comfortable upper we come in in terms of weight and let me
8:16
get to that we come in at 7.7 ounces 218 grams in the US 9 with a 39 34 stack
8:26
height so pretty much the maximum this is a 5 millimeter drop shoe so with that
8:31
lower drop you get a bit of additional weight in the mix it fits no question
8:39
true to size and the hold is really good so a big part of the hold advantage
8:47
here is a really stout much stouter than usual heel counter well lined you can
8:54
see it's completely lined on the inside so you're super well held in this light
8:58
upper so they didn't skimp at all in that department now we get some planes
9:05
coming over I'm gonna take a look no it's not the Italians they were flying
9:10
by they bet they're actually visiting our airport here on the way to somewhere
9:15
but you can see that lining showing through and yesterday in the rain I own
9:22
they only gained 10 grams per shoe and weight so that it doesn't absorb much
9:26
water outsole grip was good on dry and wet road not so good on all the sand
9:34
that's the wet sand kind of muddy sand from all of our recent storms so
9:42
Deodora has really pulled off something special here with a coherent all-of-a
9:49
piece rotation for the runner all new shoes all all brand new each with
9:56
different foam so they're really really making a statement here and I got
10:03
thinking back it reminds me of the emergence of the endorphin line from
10:09
Saucony all of a sudden with you know the pro the speed and the shift and here
10:14
they've given the shoes even a bit more distinct characters with your racer your
10:21
uptempo and your daily trainer so very impressed with what Deodora has done
10:27
here now in terms of comparables to our cellular the ones that come to mind here
10:36
are the Saucony ride 17 here we've got a little bit firmer ride a little more
10:42
dialed in upper they're all true to size for me and I think this is kind and and
10:50
not quite as bouncy but a steadier presence another one that comes to mind
10:56
the new balance 1080 the latest version very soft very sloppy upper really for
11:03
me kind of all about comfort a bit less about performance running another one
11:09
Brooks glycerin with the regular upper not the stealth fit again a great foam
11:15
but not much of an upper to kind of keep up with it in terms of the frequenza as
11:22
I said before some of the ones that come to mind here with the frequenza
11:27
would be the rebel before which is probably a little a little kind of more
11:34
uptempo focus less flexible the Puma liberate nitro from a few years ago but
11:42
here we got more shoe the oh yes and the Nike invincible run one and two not the
11:49
three similar kind of energy a bit more control here a bit more kind of geometry
11:59
that did and heel counter and construction that kind of keeps you a
12:03
little bit more stable in terms of the gara carbon and we have multi test
12:10
reviews of all of them this one's interesting it it reminds me quite a bit
12:18
of say the Brooks Hyperion elite but with a much more energetic midsole that
12:24
shoe well known for its stability but not much fun on its ride this one has a
12:29
fun ride a steady ride there's no really pronounced rocker or toe spring but it
12:37
is for sure felt there's just kind of a general consistency from front to back
12:43
in this shoe that I think makes it a really good choice for the marathoner
12:47
and particularly for the marathoner like me who's probably around four hours
12:52
maybe a bit less but certainly faster runners could benefit because you've got
12:56
you can see how that outrigger really keeps it stable and it's fairly easy to
13:03
find its four roll if I was to change anything here I might accentuate a
13:08
little bit the drop-in but the plate isn't like harsh in any any way if we
13:15
press we can feel it below with a little bit of foam below it but we've also have
13:22
plenty of softness for your toe off in here that's key to drop in and toe off
13:28
off the front finally the cellular in terms of comparisons we talked about the
13:37
1080 a little earlier yes the a6 gel nimbus this is a lower stack shoe much
13:45
more agile not nearly the blocky heel feel you get in the nimbus especially at
13:51
slower paces and we're considerably lighter another one that that kind of
13:58
fits between the frequenza and the cellular is the new high-low impact also
14:05
with an EVA supercritical foam that one's softer it probably fit is closer
14:12
really to the frequenza I really liked how they did the geometry in that one to
14:18
deal with the soft foam maybe even a bit better than what's here and then let's
14:25
see oh well we should we should mention in terms of our gara carbon what's it
14:32
closest to well we talked about the Hyperion elite for also reminds me
14:38
especially the rear of the shoe of the Solomon phantasm s lab s lab to the
14:45
Solomon has a more pronounced kind of drop-in feel but not quite as kind of
14:53
forgiving up front but very kind of similar the Solomon's also much softer
14:59
at the heel so if you're on your heel you're gonna feel it more than in this
15:04
shoe so this one's a good one for if you tend to heel strike which most of us do
15:09
so I'm glad to be back on the channel thank you very much for watching we have
15:15
multi tester reviews of all three over at road trail run calm just follow the
